Big House Under the Lights

On September 10, 2011, Michigan played Notre Dame in their first night game. The Big House was under the lights! I wasn't lucky enough to be in Ann Arbor but I could feel the electricity all the way in Alexandria, VA. I watched College Gameday and ESPN that entire morning and listened, in dismay, while almost every commentator believe that Michigan had no chance of winning. I will not lie-I was nervous but I like Brady Hoke and believed that he was able to bring about positive changes in the Wolverines.

During the 1st half, Michigan looked confused. Denard looked stifled and uncomfortable with being a pocket passer while the defense seemed up to their old antics. I struggled to comprehend how the Wolverines were going to let this big stage control them like that...and then the 2nd half started. It was a completely different team. Denard was inspired and looked more comfortable. He made better decisions and used his feet to make plays.

The defense played with so much heart. Yes, there were mental errors and missed assignments, but there was heart on that field. The defensive line battled, the linebackers blitzed, and the secondary competed. There was electricity, energy, and most importantly, turnovers! Once the defense was electrified, the offense began to click. This energy propelled Michigan from behind to beat the "fighting" Irish 35-31.

Breaking News: NFL hires first female coach....well, sort of

I have received  this link  from numerous friends and cohorts, with all of the well meaning intentions possible. You see, I am currently a doctoral student in sport management at THE GREATEST UNIVERSITY, with a focus on uncovering why there is such a severe lack of underrepresentation of Black women in athletic administration. While my particular focus is on women of color, mainly due to the fact that there is a lack of research on this population, I am always excited to hear about women in general that are 'moving the needle'. Over the summer I was excited to hear about Jen Welter  being hired by the Arizona Cardinals.  A woman on the sidelines?  Working with linebackers? WHOA! And then...I actually read the article.  Coach Welter was only hired on a temporary basis. She was an intern during preseason and training camp. As is also the case with Coach Kathryn Smith, who was hired in as the Quality Control-Special Teams Coach (QCC). I must admit, that even...

And So It begins...

Michigan vs. Alabama Go Blue!! I'm so ready! Are you??

Hit Felt Around The World

It reigned in the number one spot on SportsCenter for over 40 weeks. It hurt Wolverines to the core every time it was replayed. It solidified Clowney as a top draft pick. It is The Hit. I watched this game and The Hit was nothing short of amazing. The way Clowney hit Vincent Smith, the way he scooped up the ball with one hand and then attempted to run it back for a TD.  I'm still amazed that Vincent Smith was able to get up after that.  Personally, I thought I he was dead. Not even joking!
