The Great Debate

As the NFL draft approaches (5 weeks to be exact) there has been lost of discussion about who will go first this year. Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin III (RGIII) and runner up Andrew Luck are the biggest stories this year.

I wasn't able to follow them both through out the entire season, mostly because of coverage, but I was able to catch a few Stanford and Baylor games. I have to admit I was disappointed by Andrew Luck. Maybe it was because I saw Stanford's game vs. Oregon but to me that was his time to shine. He was uneasy and rattled the entire game. I was unimpressed to say the least. Not to take away from Luck in any way!! The boy is BAD!!! I just wasn't really excited about what he did.

Now for RGIII. I was unaware of this young man from the beginning. I'm very sad to admit this, because once I saw him play, I was thoroughly impressed!! He was smart and accurate. His moves were intentional and he was exciting to watch. I may be partially biased because I'm a fan of mobile quarterbacks. Which isn't always what wins in the NFL but can cause defenses a lot of trouble. Luck is also an athletic quarterback but there was just something about RGIII that was almost breathtaking. Okay, so breathtaking may be a little dramatic but he was fun to watch!! There is really no other way to say it.

Much debate has been made about which one of them will go first and head to Indiana. Most analysts believe that Luck will be the #1 pick in the draft. And I'm not going to argue that Luck and the Colts would be a great fit! But there is something special in RGIII and I think he will be a surprise to many people (just like Cam Newton.)

Breaking News: NFL hires first female coach....well, sort of

I have received  this link  from numerous friends and cohorts, with all of the well meaning intentions possible. You see, I am currently a doctoral student in sport management at THE GREATEST UNIVERSITY, with a focus on uncovering why there is such a severe lack of underrepresentation of Black women in athletic administration. While my particular focus is on women of color, mainly due to the fact that there is a lack of research on this population, I am always excited to hear about women in general that are 'moving the needle'. Over the summer I was excited to hear about Jen Welter  being hired by the Arizona Cardinals.  A woman on the sidelines?  Working with linebackers? WHOA! And then...I actually read the article.  Coach Welter was only hired on a temporary basis. She was an intern during preseason and training camp. As is also the case with Coach Kathryn Smith, who was hired in as the Quality Control-Special Teams Coach (QCC). I must admit, that even...

And So It begins...

Michigan vs. Alabama Go Blue!! I'm so ready! Are you??

Hit Felt Around The World

It reigned in the number one spot on SportsCenter for over 40 weeks. It hurt Wolverines to the core every time it was replayed. It solidified Clowney as a top draft pick. It is The Hit. I watched this game and The Hit was nothing short of amazing. The way Clowney hit Vincent Smith, the way he scooped up the ball with one hand and then attempted to run it back for a TD.  I'm still amazed that Vincent Smith was able to get up after that.  Personally, I thought I he was dead. Not even joking!
