From Tebowing ----> The LINear effect

Sports stories are some of the greatest to me. Players who people discount and believe will do absolutely nothing have the opportunities to SHINE!

Now entering stage left:
Tim Tebow:

Jeremy Lin:

Yes, ESPN can get carried away with their coverage of certain players. But you can't really be too mad about that. Let's think about it shall we: Tebow and Lin came into the picture when both of their teams seemed lost, and then won!!! No, it's not always pretty (especially in terms of Tebow) but they won either way.

Tim Tebow had to watch ESPN daily as analysts criticized his ability and discussed how he would never succeed as an NFL quarterback. Granted, Tebow's style isn't quite effective in the NFL. A lot of changes were made for him in Florida and he was surrounded by some incomprehensible talent, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he would be completely awful. Tebow became the starter in Denver and the Broncos started winning. Yes, credit needs to be given to the defense and kicker, but they were factors before Tebow even started. He was able to win. The team seemed like they wanted to fight for him. Not just win, but fight! And that makes a difference! Part of what made the story so endearing was Tebow's humility.

AND:

Humility is something Jeremy Lin definitely has. I mean, he was sleeping on his brother's couch because he was unsure about his contract. He got the chance to come into the game and with Lin, the Knicks have won six straight games. They now have the chance to be .500 and possibly become a contender in the east. He has this uncanny ability to make everyone else on the court better. That's the definition of a good player. Yes, he needs to tighten up his defense and lower his turnovers, but if he's able to work on those factors, he has the possibility to be a valued point guard in league. You don't coach HEART. That is something Jeremy Lin possesses to the fullest.

I wouldn't call myself a bandwagon fan (even if I was, I wouldn't be ashamed) but watching them is FUN. So, I will be Tebowing and playing Super LINtendo with the rest of them!

Breaking News: NFL hires first female coach....well, sort of

I have received  this link  from numerous friends and cohorts, with all of the well meaning intentions possible. You see, I am currently a doctoral student in sport management at THE GREATEST UNIVERSITY, with a focus on uncovering why there is such a severe lack of underrepresentation of Black women in athletic administration. While my particular focus is on women of color, mainly due to the fact that there is a lack of research on this population, I am always excited to hear about women in general that are 'moving the needle'. Over the summer I was excited to hear about Jen Welter  being hired by the Arizona Cardinals.  A woman on the sidelines?  Working with linebackers? WHOA! And then...I actually read the article.  Coach Welter was only hired on a temporary basis. She was an intern during preseason and training camp. As is also the case with Coach Kathryn Smith, who was hired in as the Quality Control-Special Teams Coach (QCC). I must admit, that even...

And So It begins...

Michigan vs. Alabama Go Blue!! I'm so ready! Are you??

Hit Felt Around The World

It reigned in the number one spot on SportsCenter for over 40 weeks. It hurt Wolverines to the core every time it was replayed. It solidified Clowney as a top draft pick. It is The Hit. I watched this game and The Hit was nothing short of amazing. The way Clowney hit Vincent Smith, the way he scooped up the ball with one hand and then attempted to run it back for a TD.  I'm still amazed that Vincent Smith was able to get up after that.  Personally, I thought I he was dead. Not even joking!
